When you upload Featured Videos and Video Clips, they do not get compressed, but they are optimized for storage which makes no impact on visual quality. This process takes the contents of the video file and reorganizes it in a more concise way, speeding up the upload and download process and saving storage space.
First, the Uploader will create a few different resolutions of the video for better streaming for your clients. These resolutions are 4k, FHD (1080p), HD (720p), and 360p, depending on the max resolution of your original file.
Second, the video bitrate is capped at 15Mb/sec for 4K, 8Mb/sec for FHD, 4Mb/sec for HD, and 2Mb/sec for 360p.
The highest available resolution of the video will always be viewable and ready for download (if you have downloads enabled), and isn't moved to an archive storage. Because of the optimization, the downloaded file will most likely be smaller than the original uploaded file.
Your Video Storage also accounts for the size of this highest downloaded resolution available for the video only. Lower resolutions do not count against your video storage.
