Pic-Time may display a low-resolution warning in two scenarios. This guide will help you resolve these issues and ensure your clients’ images meet optimal resolution requirements for creating beautiful, high-quality prints.

When Uploading Images

If you see a low-resolution warning during image upload, it means the image is less than 2000px on the long edge.

Solution

To ensure your images accommodate all print options:

  1. Calculate the required pixel dimensions (300 DPI).

  2. Export images at these dimensions from your editing software.

  3. Verify resolution and dimensions before uploading to Pic-Time.

For more guidance, refer to our articles on optimal image resolution and preparing files for upload to ensure your images are of high quality and ready for print.

When Selecting Images for Shop Products

Pic-Time uses image resolution to verify if the size is sufficient for printing. The warning appears when you or your clients select images for large print products, indicating the resolution is insufficient for high-quality printing.

Solution

Advise clients not to proceed with printing flagged items, as the results may appear blurry or pixelated. Suggest choosing smaller products or uploading higher-resolution images that meet print size requirements.

Please Note: The maximum file dimensions for Pic-Time are 12,000 x 12,000 pixels, and the maximum file size is 100MB. Files exceeding these limits cannot be uploaded.

Recommended Resolution for Printing

Images should be uploaded at 300 DPI (dots per inch). To calculate pixel dimensions, multiply 300 by the desired print dimensions. For example:

  • A 4x6 print requires 1,200 x 1,800 pixels (4 × 300 = 1,200 and 6 × 300 = 1,800).

  • An 8x10 print requires 2,400 x 3,000 pixels (8 × 300 = 2,400 and 10 × 300 = 3,000).

Checking File Size and Resolution

To ensure your images meet resolution requirements, note the difference between:

  • Image Size/Resolution: Pixel dimensions (e.g., 4000 x 6000 pixels).

  • File Size: Space the file occupies (e.g., 4.5MB). File size does not determine image resolution. It only affects the amount of storage your files occupy on your Pic-Time account.

How to check image resolution:

On Mac

  1. Right-click the file in Finder.

  2. Select Get Info.

  3. Check the Dimensions field.

On Windows

  1. Right-click the file in File Explorer.

  2. Select Properties.

  3. Go to the Details tab and check the Image Dimensions field.
