Some icons might be hidden in the Menu Bar on MacBook Pro computers. This happens when there are too many icons and navigation items. Newer models have an additional notch in the center, which takes up extra space, forcing more icons to be hidden.
MacBook Pro Hidden Icons
Below is an example of a MacBook Pro with a black notch in the Menu Bar.
In the example below, some icons (highlighted in red) are hidden when the Menu Bar becomes too full.
Sometimes you’ll need to access the Pic-Time uploader via its Menu Bar icon (for example, to Check for Updates, Restart, or Quit the app). If the icon is hidden, these functions won’t be accessible.
Please Note: Unfortunately, hidden icons are an Apple-related issue, and our best recommendation is to submit feedback directly to Apple.
In the meantime, we can suggest a few workarounds that have helped other users. While we're sharing these workarounds in good faith, Pic-Time cannot take responsibility for any third-party software you choose to install.
Workarounds
Workaround 1 - Open a different app with a smaller menu
The application you’re actively using affects how much space is available in the Menu Bar. Apps like Lightroom or Photoshop use large menus, which can hide icons. To free up space, switch to an app with a smaller menu, such as Finder.
In the GIF below, you can see that Finder’s menu takes up less space than Photoshop’s, allowing more icons to show.
Workaround 2 - Close unnecessary apps
Try closing some of the apps you have open. Check the icons on the right side of your Menu Bar and close any apps you don’t need at the moment. If you need them again later, just reopen them from your Applications folder.
Workaround 3 - Rearrange icons
Hold down Command and + (the plus key), then drag some icons into the hidden notch area. This lets you rearrange the visible icons, making space for others to appear. You may need to repeat this until the Pic-Time uploader icon becomes visible.
Workaround 4 - Don’t Show in Menu Bar
Go to System Settings > Control Centre and select Don’t Show in Menu Bar for items you want to hide. This will free up space, allowing more room for other icons.
Workaround 5 - Install 3rd party software to bypass the notch.
There are apps that allow you to temporarily move your menu bar lower, below the notch, creating more space. One example is "Say No to Notch", but are likely others available in the Apple App Store.
Please Note: Pic-Time is not affiliated in any way with this or other third-party apps, and we recommend you do your own research before installing any apps on your computer.
