Some icons may be hidden in the Menu Bar on MacBook Pro computers. This happens if there are many icons and navigation items, forcing some icons to be removed from view. Newer MacBook Pros also have a "notch" in the center of the Menu Bar, taking up additional Menu Bar real estate.

MacBook Pro Hidden Icons

See the below example of a MacBook Pro with a black "notch" in the center.

In the below example, you can see some icons (highlighted in red) are being removed from view when the Menu Bar is full with other items.

Sometimes you will need to access Pic-Time's uploader app via the Pic-Time icon in the Menu Bar (For example, Check for Updates, Restart, Quit, etc). These functions will be inaccessible if the icon is hidden.

Unfortunately, the hidden icons is a problem related to Apple, and our best recommendation is to submit your feedback to Apple.

In the absence of Apple fixing the problem, we can share some workarounds that have worked for other users. We are sharing these with you because they have worked for others, however, Pic-Time cannot be held responsible for any third-party software you install on your computer.

Workarounds

Workaround 1 - Change the program you have open.

You can try opening a program that has a smaller navigation menu. Some programs on your computer (for example Lightroom and Photoshop) have navigation menus that take up a large section of the menu bar. By opening an app with a smaller navigation menu, such as Finder, you give more space for other icons.

In the .gif below you can see Finder has a much smaller navigation menu than Photoshop, allowing more room.

Workaround 2 - Close apps.

You can try closing some open apps on your computer. Go through your icons on the right side of your Menu Bar and close any that you do not need to keep open. Remember to reopen them later from your Applications if you need them again later!

Workaround 3 - Rearrange icons.

By holding down command + dragging an icon you can drag the visible icons into the hidden notch area and rearrange them so that another becomes visible. You may need to repeat these steps until the Pic-Time uploader app icon becomes visible.

Workaround 4 - Don't show icons in Menu Bar.

In your System Settings, go to your Control Centre and you can indicate what items you want to show in your Menu Bar. Removing items will allow more space in your Menu Bar for other icons.

Workaround 5 - Install 3rd Party Software to bypass the notch.

There are some apps in the Apple App Store that will allow you to temporarily move your menu bar lower, below the notch, giving you additional menu bar real estate where the notch would otherwise be. One example is "Say No to Notch", and there are likely others. (Please be aware Pic-Time is not affiliated in any way with this app, and we recommend you do your own research before installing any apps on your computer).
