Google Search Central offers resources to make your website discoverable to Google Search.

How does my site/blog get indexed?

Indexing happens automatically, but can take up to a week for the site to appear on search engines. If your blog is still missing from a google search after one week, refer to this article.

What is a sitemap, and how do I submit it to Search Console to be indexed?

A sitemap is the list of pages of a website within a domain. Indexed sitemaps appear higher up on search results since the website has already been located. Learn how to submit a sitemap here.

If your sitemap includes only web page URLs, you can provide Google with a simple text file that contains one URL per line.

If you're using a website such as WordPress, Wix, or Blogger, you may already have a sitemap available to search engines. For example, if you use Yoast with your WordPress website, the sitemap can be automatically enabled and viewed.

Squarespace sitemaps is found by adding “/sitemap.xml” to the end of your domain.

If you connect your site to Google Search Console using the Wix SEO Wiz, Wix automatically submits your sitemap to Google.

How do I check to see if my blogs are indexed?

To see if search engines like Google and Bing have indexed your site, enter "site:" followed by the blog link (or your canonical link if you’ve embedded the blog on your website into the search engine. For example: "site:mywebsite.com/blog1"

The search engine will bring up all urls that have been indexed as search results.

If your website has a lot of pages or posts, you can also check Google’s Page Indexing report, which will show all the indexed and non-indexed pages on your website.

If you’re interested in one specific blog or page on your site, and would like more details than just a search result, is to use Search Console’s URL Inspection tool.

What are canonical links?

A canonical URL is the URL of the best representative page from a group of duplicate pages. When embedding blogs onto your website, your canonical link will be your website page in which the blog post resides, not the direct link to the blog post itself. This way, google will index your website directly. Learn more here.

How do I use FB Debugger to check and edit previews?

The FB Debugger shows how your URL will appear when it is shared on Facebook, and other social media platforms, like Twitter. Please note: It will be accurate for Facebook only, but is generally the same across other social media platforms.
